Kyle “te Kiwi” Mulinder (Te is the Maori word for “the”) is the Owner/Founder and Front Man of Bare Kiwi. Kyle te Kiwi has always had a reputation for contagious energy and a passion for life all mixed up with an unwavering belief that there is no place on Earth like Aotearoa. A place he is proud to call home. Brought up on a small sheep farm in an even smaller lower North Island town called Norsewood, Kyle moved to the South Island for his first full-time job as a white water rafting guide on the Buller River with Ultimate Descents N.Z. He has never looked back!
Exploring the world while working in tourism, Kyle has always proudly represented his Maori heritage and “kiwi” culture to travelers through his love of story telling and his lack of shyness. If you’re lucky you might catch Kyle in a N.Z summer working as a sea kayak guide in the Abel Tasman National Park for the Sea Kayak Company.
Kyle’s idea for Bare Kiwi was sparked over the years as Kyle noticed hundreds of tonnes of ‘disposable’ tourism literature being created and dumped every year and no one was really out there to help educate and show the traveler honestly what New Zealand is.
It seemed so simple for Kyle to start Bare Kiwi. The name was already picked out in his mind as something cheeky and different. It matched with his outgoing attitude and eagerness to help others. Bare Kiwi would turn heads and make people go HUH????. He put himself in front of a camera, called a few mates to help, jumped on the road and started filming.
